Pretending God is a Man

“God is not a man, that he should lie”
–Numbers 23:19

One of the favorite pasttimes of the foolish and wicked is the constructing of (what they believe to be) conundrums, puzzles, paradoxes and provocative statements or questions involving God.

“Why doesn’t God end suffering? If God is all-powerful, he could end all human suffering.  If he is all-powerful and doesn’t end human suffering, he doesn’t care for us.”

These constructions are supposed to cause those who believe in God to question His authority or power.

BUT, one thing all of these fanciful products have in common is that they all pretend that God is a man.

But, God is NOT a man.

Thank goodness.

In most of these questions or paradoxes, the interests of man is assumed to also be the interest of God.

The ways of man are assumed to be the ways of God.

But often, the traditional ways of man (or the LEGAL ways of man) are not even accepted by other men–let alone God Himself.

EXAMPLE: It is not only legal, in some circles, it is socially and morally acceptable to smoke or to drink liquor.

But both of these practices are not even accepted by all other men.  AND, both of these practices contribute to health problems.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
–Proverbs 14:12

Much sin is marketed as “fun.” And many other men participate in sin because they do not see any harm in anything which is “fun.”

One point those who study such paradoxes of the wicked and foolish need to keep in mind.

God’s ways are NOT man’s ways.  God can see where man can only make a guess.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
–Isaiah 55:8-9

God’s ways are not man’s ways also because God can see each man’s heart and judge that man.

“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
–1SAMUEL 16:7

So the next time that someone presents a “God problem,” the reader needs to keep in mind that God is NOT a man.

Once the reader bears this one rule in mind, he will then have little problem seeing a few other features of the men who construct such “God paradoxes“: namely vanity, pride and arrogance.

DOES the reader make the mistake of thinking of God Almighty as if He was a man?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

DOES the reader believe he is saved?
