Prophets Are Obsolete. False Prophets? Not So Much.

false prophets and false Christs abound

During a recent discussion about TV preachers, a question was asked about whether any had seen (on TV) the latest scam from the wolves.

“Has anyone seen anybody on TV who claims to be a prophet or apostle?”

Though the consensus was that they had, most didn’t sound too sure.

“That’s just a form of false messiah!”

After some agreement on that point, it was revealed that the Bible states WITHOUT QUESTION that there are no more prophets.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds”
–Hebrews 1:1-2

The word “PROPHET” means “mouthpiece of God.”  It was someone that God Himself was talking to in order to get a point across to the public.

What Does Scripture Teach About the Office of Prophet and Gift of Prophecy?

Being a mouthpiece for the word of the Lord was often a dangerous calling. People frequently mocked, rejected, persecuted, and even killed God’s prophets (2 Chron. 36:16; Jer. 11:21; 18:18; 20:2, 7–10).

Also, there was misunderstanding that “prophets” predict the future.

To be sure: while there is SOME of that went on, prophets commonly relayed information about God and His holiness, as well as warnings of what would happen IF the people did not change their sinful ways.

The final takeaway of that short 5-minute conversation?

Regardless of what people on TV may claim, there are NO prophets operating today–and there are a GREAT many who claim to be a “prophet” (or who claim to be an “apostle.”)

Do NOT believe such claims: they are just lies.

Prophets are like buggy whips makers or elevator operators: they are obsolete.  God’s Word informs the reader that prophets are not longer used by God as He has said everything He needed to say through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Still, the false prophets are more plentiful than ever.

HAS the reader ever seen a man or woman who claimed to be a prophet?

HAS the reader ever come across someone on the Internet claiming to be a prophet?

HAS the reader ever wondered if those people are legit?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
