Before Social Distancing

BEFORE social distancing…

BEFORE the ubiquitous face masks…

BEFORE the gallon jugs of hand sanitizer…

Medicine fought the brave fight against infectious disease with the PLAGUE DOCTOR COSTUME.

The purpose of the mask was to keep away bad smells, known as miasma, which were thought to be the principal cause of the disease before it was disproved by germ theory.[2][3] Doctors believed the herbs would counter the “evil” smells of the plague and prevent them from becoming infected.

Plague doctors wore their costumes in public to frighten the public and thus alert them to the fact that there was a plague. (Apparently, like coronavirus, there were those who doubted the official story.  The horror stories of plague (“The Black Death“) didn’t happen until AFTERWARDS.

This costume was also worn by plague doctors during the Plague of 1656, which killed 145,000 people in Rome and 300,000 in Naples.[19] The costume terrified people because it was a sign of imminent death. Plague doctors wore these protective costumes in accordance with their agreements when they attended their plague patients.

BEFORE the story of Germ Theory...

There was the story of Miasma Theory.

The miasma theory (also called the miasmatic theory) is an obsolete medical theory that held that diseases—such as cholera, chlamydia, or the Black Death—were caused by a miasma (μίασμα, Ancient Greek for “pollution”), a noxious form of “bad air”, also known as night air. The theory held that epidemics were caused by miasma, emanating from rotting organic matter.

The primary product of modern medicine seems to have been BETTER STORIES.

For over 1000 years, medical authorities have been “keeping people safe” by providing them with a series of stories about what is claimed to be happening to them.

“You’ve come a long way, baby!”

DOES the reader believe that the stories told today are more believable?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
