Stories

telling a story

Before their time on earth is done, modern folks will hear a GREAT many stories: stories about HOW the world supposedly works; stories about HOW the world and its various components supposedly function (and work so much better due to SCIENCE!); stories about HOW people supposedly got into this world and stories about HOW they supposedly will leave this world.

Stories.

The reader WILL (as it has already been declared) hear quite a few of them.

MORE

IN FACT, it could be argued that the reader–over the course of his life–will hear MORE stories than he will hear the truth.

OF COURSE, none of this matters if what the reader desires is to be told a lovely story–instead of the truth.

Unfortunately, the LARGE MAJORITY of moderns would rather hear a lovely story than the truth of the matter.

“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.”
Winston Churchill

This is unfortunate because, NOT having THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH, those who desire a pleasant story will get their wish–for eternity.

“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
–2THESSALONIANS 2:10-12

Strong delusion: it’s AS IF God has said, “You want to hear lies, okay, I’ll make sure that’s all you hear!”

Stories.

MOST know there are problems with the stories they have been told.  They KNOW this because it all just doesn’t add up.

(It’s VERY hard for even accomplished liars to get ALL of the many parts of their stories straight.  This is one reason liars change their stories so often.)

But MOST who are confronted with the truth, choose to live their lives according to the stories they have been told.

Rather than the truth.

They CHOOSE this because it is EASIER for them to do so–at least, for a little while.

They CHOOSE lies rather than the truth because they are more comfortable with lies.

They CHOOSE stories rather than investigating whenever they turn up inconsistencies in those stories because their WHOLE LIFE is revolves around those stories.  IF they did not believe them, they would have to change so many parts of their lives–and that would be too much trouble.

Whatever the reason, the modern world is a construct built on stories.  This is mostly because the modern world will see Satan make his grand play for it–though the devil ultimately falls on his face.

Years ago, one could recognize a story when it was being told because it opened with “Once upon a time…”

One quite popular story opened with “Once upon a midnight dreary…”

Snoopy–of Peanuts‘ fame–often opened HIS stories with “It was a dark and stormy night…”

IF ONLY the reader would closely examine the various parts of a story when he became aware they “don’t add up.”

IF ONLY the reader had a “love of the truth.”

IF ONLY all those stories opened with a line that would announce to the world, “I am a story: nothing more, nothing less.”

Instead, many modern stories begin with “Today in Washington…”

WHAT does the reader do whenever he notices that one part of a story is IMPOSSIBLE (based on other stories he has been told)?

DOES the reader make excuses for that story’s lies?

“Oh, the writer was probably in a hurry and wasn’t thinking!”

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
