A Few Stories of the Church Folk

telling a story

Like people everywhere, the church folk love a good story.

MORE: Modern Man Loves a Good Story

And there are a great many stories which circulate among the church folk–who appear to enjoy nothing more than to hear and to tell a good story about those who congregate in the buildings we call “the churches.

One of the most popular stories which circulate among the churches is the one about “The former witch who came to Christ and NOW is a god-fearing church lady.”

OR some variation of that story.

This story makes some sense as most churches are loaded with practicing witches.

One church–for a little while anyway–told the story about “The very powerful witch–who was the head of a local coven–who found the Lord and who is NOW coming to church to show his appreciation at being saved.”

(While the man did have a VERY POWERFUL spirit he consulted with, he showed up once or twice and then was never seen in that church again.)

IF the truth be known, the churches have ALWAYS been a popular place for witches to gather.

Where better?

And besides: witches enjoy a good story as much as the next person.

Another popular church story is the one about how “The church folk are just trying to make this a better world.”

Which is one reason the church folk busy themselves so with the giving out meals, operating clothes closets and other community projects.

What does the Bible have to say about working to make this present world a better place?

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
–Isaiah 65:17

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”
–Revelation 21:1

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
–2PETER 3:13

This world–and the CONDITION of the world–is very important to those who look to the world for answers.

One of the church stories which one seemingly hears NO MATTER WHICH CHURCH ONE ATTENDS is the one about the person who keeps claiming, “I’m on fire for the LORD!”

This person’s entire vocabulary seems to consist of him repeating, “I’m on fire for the LORD!”

At one church, a young man who wandered the church had his spiel down pat.

“I used to be into the occult but now I’m on fire for the LORD!  I left all of that behind and NOW I can’t stand it!  I’m on fire for the LORD!”

One day, when the discussion turned to tarot cards, the young man offered as how he might be able to find some his old ones around.

Later in the same day, he confirmed, “Yes, I found some of my old tarot cards.  Do you want me to bring them in?”

This naturally prompted the question, “What is one who is on fire for the LORD doing with tarot cards?“–but the question remained unspoken.

Like people everywhere, the church folk love a good story.

These are but three of the most common ones one hears in those churches.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
