“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
—John 15:18-19
Why are we seeing so many authoritative organizations and people attack the Bible? Actually, this has been happening for a long time. It has only appeared to have gotten worse in the last several years because all alternate sources of authority have joined forces to undermine God’s Word. Of course the Bible assures believers this would happen. It also doesn’t get better. It only gets worse.
The world has spent the last 2000 years raising up alternate sources of authority to try and chip away at the authority of God’s Word.
Why has the world done this?
The world hates Jesus. The world hates God. The world is the enemy of God. Therefore, the world hates Christians.
The world hates Jesus, Christians and God because everything that is in the world is the source of sin.
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
—1 John 2:16
True believers are not to love the world nor the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, then they are not a Christian. The churches call these world-lovers by a variety of different names, but according to God’s Word, they are counterfeits; pretenders; false professors.
On this point, the Bible is crystal clear.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
—1 John 2:15
Because the churches are of this world, they are not friends of God, they are enemies of God. The Bible says the whole world will worship the dragon in the last days. They will worship the dragon in the churches.
“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
—Revelation 13:4,8
What are some of these alternate, man-created sources of authority which the world has raised up? Here are but a few.
- The Vatican
- The churches
- Science
- Education
- Psychiatry and psychology
- History
- Entertainment
- Politics and political leaders
- Art and Literature
- Media
- Culture
If the reader ever wondered why so many worldly sources conflict with the Bible, now he knows.
The world hates the Word of God. To counteract the Word of God, the world has raised up its own sources of authority which constantly war against the Bible, God and Jesus Christ. Even when these alternate sources of authority have appeared to agree with the Bible, it is only temporarily. Once they have established themselves and accumulated enough trust, they turn on the Bible.
All have. Some work by attacking the Bible head-on; others work by slyly corrupting what the Bible says.
These sources of authority are of the world. The world is the enemy of God. Therefore, it is no marvel the world’s authority will be used to undermine the Word of God.
“whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
—James 4:4
Of course the Bible assures believers all of this will happen. It also assures believers that it doesn’t get any better: it only gets worse. But then, Jesus addressed that as well.
“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
—John 16:33
