The Small Comforts and Joys

In the times in which we live–when those once fairly common, not-quite-everyday items (whether they be bolts, screws, foods, small springs, replacement parts, metal buckets, knickknacks, what have you‘s), which USED TO be stocked by local stores BUT NOW are ONLY available ONLINE–locating such items for immediate pickup and use have become adventures in research and detective work.

SO, one can imagine the surprise at finding, not just ONE such item, but TWO–on the same day, in the same store, ON THE SAME DUSTY RACK.

One product was being sought; the other, replaced what had become a tedious process made necessary by lifestyle changes.  But both products were PERFECT for the job they both had to do.

Yes, the items were not prominently displayed and were found on a dusty rack in a corner of that store, BUT they were both there, waiting to fill a need, and IMMEDIATELY available for under TWO DOLLARS each.

Upon walking out of the store with the items bought, paid for and IN HAND, the question arose: “Should finding such small, once-so-easily-obtainable merchandise bring a man a feeling of satisfaction close to joy?”

FIRST, it was considered that no thing of this world should bring such elation.

BUT, while pondering this question, it was determined that God, the Provider of all things, will, from time-to-time, provide those small joys and comforts that ease one’s life in this present world. A few other thoughts popped up during this contemplation.

1- God’s Word assures us that God is not merely the God of Big-Ticket Comfort: He is the God of ALL comfort, both big AND small.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort”
–2CORINTHIANS 1:3

2- However, God DOES provide comfort for ALL occasions.

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
–Matthew 5:4

“Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.”
–Luke 6:21

3- There is a reason–other than He loves us–God provides comfort to the believer.

“Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
–2CORINTHIANS 1:4

And lastly,

God, the Provider of all things, will, from time-to-time, provide those small joys and comforts that ease one’s life in this present world. For believers, God will continue to provide those small joys and comforts–those little satisfactions–right up until the moment those small comforts are no longer needed.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
