Random Thoughts

[Taken from several recent discussions as well as emails, comments and the odd note–but mostly from the odd note.]

* How did the apostles of Jesus know the things they knew?

Jesus Christ chose his apostles mostly from the uneducated working class.

Only Matthew–who was a tax collector–and later, Paul, primarily used their minds in their employment.

YET those men wrote the entire New Testament of the Bible: with all of its intimate knowledge of salvation, the New Covenant and other information on which Christianity was based.  ALL of it woven seamlessly into what had already been written in the Old Testament.

The question has always been: How did these uneducated men know the things they knew?

The world answers that question by insisting that other wrote those things in the names of those apostles. But the world is hopelessly deceived.

* Movies help spread falsehoods.

They ALWAYS have.

One of those lies which was very popular in older movies was the one about someone being pursued (usually by the authorities) and what keeps the hero–who is pursued–safe is the canard that the hero has damning information about the authorities and if anything happens to him, he has ensured that this information will be sent to the New York Times, supposedly to expose the evil plot of those authorities who are pursuing him.

AS IF the civil authorities and the New York Times are somehow playing for different teams and are adversaries–instead of collaborators.

* One modern past time is the appearance of ADULT COLORING BOOKS.

SO, it makes sense–at least to those who know the times in which we now live–that one of the most popular genres of adult coloring books is the MEDITATIVE adult coloring book.

“Meditation” in terms of coloring is not the same as a traditional meditation practice, as you will not be focusing on your breath and clearing your mind. Instead, you will focus your attention on coloring, unlocking the creative side of your brain, and through the act of coloring you can clear your mind of other worries.

Clearing one’s mind through coloring.

Yes, that is certainly a most modern topic.

* One of the hallmarks of religions is the perfectibility of man.

Usually through the techniques, traditions and rituals advocated by that religion.

Man enjoys hearing this hogwash.  Man entertains fantasies about being perfect, IF ONLY he knew the secrets of such a transformation.

False religions will NEVER lack for converts as long as they peddle stories of man’s perfectibility (using their methods).

Galatians 6:3 is the answer to all those who believe that man, through much effort, can make himself much better than a normal man, composed as he is from the dust and dirt of the earth.

“For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.”

* Anyone who has watched much television is familiar with the propaganda which goes by the name of HOLLYWOOD BIOs.

These 30- to 60-minute puff pieces supposedly tell the life stories of those men and women who have become known–in the PR of Hollywood–as “actors,” “actresses,” “stars” and “legends.”

BUT, no matter how much lipstick one puts on a pig, it is still a pig.

And so, MOST of these infomercials about the denizens of Hollywood usually end up with the same tired conclusions about the broken lives and shattered dreams represented by the death of its “stars.”

“Well, Hollywood chewed up and spit out another one.”

* Most of the world’s arguments for trusting the world and the world’s solutions involve promises of increased prosperity in this world.

Which are empty promises, since those who value increased prosperity are NEVER satisfied with what they have.

They want MORE.

* Nothing sums up the world’s great desire for DRAMA over safety like the following quote from Winston Churchill.

“Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result.”

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
