Climax of Human History: Day of the LORD or Return of Jesus Christ

climax of human history

“And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs [two hundred miles]. “
–Revelation 14:20

Attempting to warn man about the soon return of Jesus Christ is not only a thankless task, it is a job with little upside.

1- In the times in which we live, few believe God’s Word.

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”
–1John 5:19

2- Worse, according to the Bible, even most of those who profess to follow and believe God’s Word are deceived.

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world”
–Revelation 12:9

This is particularly true of the tares who are enslaved in the buildings we call churches.

LORD, LORD: Who is Crying Lord, Lord?

Still, believers are to try.

And so here is a look at what happens at the climax of human history (the return of Jesus Christ; also called “the day of the LORD“).

“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.”
–Isaiah 13:9

First, the world falls under the rule of a world council which governs the entire world.

This is not a story.  This is not a conspiracy theory.  This is the Word of God.

This one-world government is called “the beast” by the Bible.

“After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.”
–Daniel 7:7

The horns are kings (leaders) who rule the entire end times world.

The prophet Daniel asked the meaning of his vision of a great worldwide empire in the end times and what it meant.  The angel Gabriel was sent by God to explain his vision to him.

“Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”
–Daniel 7:23-25

Gabriel tells Daniel that even though the worldwide end times kingdom will be stronger than any other kingdom which has existed previously, it will only rule for 3 1/2 years (time and times and the dividing of time).

The Book of Revelation is very exact about how long this worldwide kingdom holds almost-complete sway over the earth: 3 1/2 years; 42 months; 1260 days.

This coming universally-wicked time on earth will be an opportunity for believers: believers will be asked to testify for Jesus Christ to a Jesus Christ-less world–even though that will mean almost certain death.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
–Revelation 12:11

At the end of this forty-two month period, Jesus Christ returns to earth to set up his kingdom. When he returns, the earth is cleansed from the wicked.

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
–Revelation 19:11-16

This will mark the end of man’s wicked, destructive rule over earth. Naturally, man will resist this change in management.

The kings of the earth gather the world’s armies together to make war against Jesus Christ.

“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.”
–Revelation 19:19

The earth’s armies will be collected from all of mankind.

“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”
–Revelation 16:13-14,16

Mankind’s armies are slaughtered.

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.”
–Revelation 19:20-21

And the many stories and narratives of man (particularly modern man)–which prepared the whole earth for the VICTORY of man over God–will come to nothing and never be remembered again.

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
–Isaiah 65:17

This is what takes place on the day Jesus Christ returns.

This is only a basic overview: there is much, much more.

Next, we will take a look at what happens on or immediately after the day of the LORD.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
