Satan’s Casual Dismissal of That Which God Has Said

casual

NOT ALL of Satan’s attacks on the Word of God take the form of in-your-face, direct attacks.

Occasionally, Satan will seek to discredit the Word of God by using a seemingly-offhand CASUAL remark.

There is more than one example of this tactic, but TWO come immediately to mind.

The first case is when Satan asks, “Did God really say that?”

There is usually no argument about the particulars of what God has decreed.  Only a sort of “Are you going to believe THAT? Surely you are not going to believe what God said?”

The most prominent use of Satan employing this little trick was Genesis 3, in which the devil (in the form of the serpent) asked Eve, “Hath God said?”

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
–Genesis 3:1

The second example of this type of satanic trickery comes from the 1997 film, The Devil’s Advocate.

In a scene from the climax of the film, Satan (who takes the form of lawyer, John Milton) is involved in a discussion with his son, Kevin.

Kevin Lomax: In the Bible you lose. We’re destined to lose dad.

John Milton: Well consider the source son.

NO fireworks.

NO grand denial.

NO disputing the particulars.

Only a casual dismissal of what God has said in His Word–actually, a casual dismissal of God’s Word itself.

“Well consider the source son.”

The casual, offhanded rejection of the TRUTH of God’s Word may be Satan’s most effective trick.

HAS the reader fallen for this wile of the devil?

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
–Ephesians 6:11

It is not YET too late: there is still a little time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
