The Fearful

The fearful.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
–Revelation 21:8

INTRODUCTION: THE FEARFUL

God’s Word is VERY clear about the type of person who will end up burning for eternity in the lake of fire.

The reader may agree that unbelievers, the abominable, murders, whoremongers, sorcerers and idolaters–along with ALL liars–are appropriate targets for a just God.

But ‘the fearful’?

Why is that group included with the others marked by God for eternal punishment?

After all, everyone exhibits–at one time or another–a fear of SOMETHING.

Isn’t practically EVERYONE fearful?

Isn’t the well-known survival mechanism (named and promoted by the world) called “fight or flight“? And doesn’t ‘flight’ imply ‘fleeing,’ which is a response brought about by FEAR?

Doesn’t the world tell the reader that “discretion” (another name for “run away and live to fight another day“) is the “better part of valor“?

And doesn’t the world call those who are too fearful to stand, “cowards“–which is a fairly COMMON word?

Most men experience FEAR at one time or another: WHY, then, does God’s Word single out those marked by this widespread emotion for judgment?

These are the questions ETPR (in conjunction with God’s Word) will attempt to answer over the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, the reader may rest assured that ‘the fearful’ are named NOT without REASON by God’s Word.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
–Revelation 21:8

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
