IDOLATRY
“Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it:”
–Leviticus 26:1
PART TWO: WHY DO MEN WORSHIP IDOLS?
Why do men worship idols?
Years ago, the idea that someone would bow down to a statue and worship seemed irrational. Why would a person place their trust in a piece of wood or stone or metal?
But history records many who have done just that. In addition, a number of people this writer personally knows worship idols and most of these people seem rational.
So why do it?
Over the past few years, a number of different reasons have been offered during discussions on this topic: sin, rebellion, deception, wickedness, even fashion.
And none of those would be wrong. BUT the number one reason men worship idols of their own making is:
Because it works.
Men worship idols because men want power, control, health, wealth, knowledge, pleasure, protection.
And idols–or rather, the demonic evil spirit which is behind every idol–delivers ONCE IT HAS RECEIVED WHAT IT REQUIRES IN SACRIFICE.
Sound crazy?
“But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils”
–1 Corinthians 10:20
The Bible explains that men should petition God for what they need.
BUT men want more than they need. Many men know God will not grant various petty or selfish requests. And many men want what they want regardless of what God commands or whether it is evil. So, these men turn to idols–or rather the demon which is behind every idol–to fulfill their desires.
As one man put it “It works!”
And so it does. The Bible records many instances of men sacrificing to idols (demons) to get what they want. One king sacrificed his oldest son in order to obtain help against Israel in a battle.
“But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel. And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border. And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not. Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.”
–2 Kings 3:5-7,21,24,26-27
Impatient men have no interest on waiting on the Lord for their requests. They want what they want NOW!
These are the kind of men who worship and sacrifice to idols. A demon will give a man what he wants–for a price. That price is the required sacrifice.
Typical sacrifices have been incense, food, blood, animals and children. To sacrifice a child to Moloch (an idol of the Canaanites; also called Milcom and Molech) was referred to as “passing through the fire.”
“And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.”
–Leviticus 18:21
“And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”
–Jeremiah 32:35
Men who sacrificed their children to Moloch were usually seeking money, wealth and good fortune.
“And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils [demons], And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.”
–Psalm 106:36-38
PART ONE: End Times IDOLATRY: What is Idolatry?
PART TWO: End Times IDOLATRY: Why Do Men Worship Idols?
PART THREE: End Times IDOLATRY: The Land is Full of Idols
The Bible declares that there is a demon behind every idol. Demons have supernatural power. So the Bible declares that idolatry “works” [is effective].
The idolators declare that their god (demon) answers their requests. They declare idolatry “works.”
The only ones who declare that idolatry DOES NOT WORK are 1) those who DO NOT HAVE any experience or knowledge about the subject; and, 2) those who DO HAVE experience or knowledge but for one reason or another have decided that they want to keep this information hidden.
“For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the people are idols”
–1 Chronicles 16:25-26
Men worship idols not because they are stupid or ignorant.
- Men worship idols because there is illegitimate supernatural power to be accessed through idols.
- Men want the things of this world, which the Bible declares to be sin.
- The things of this world can be had by dancing to the tune of the demons which stand behind every idol.
Men have worshiped idols for centuries. The Greeks and Romans built temples for their pagan gods; in each temple was an idol.
The Bible declares that men will be worshiping idols in the end times. In fact, idol worship is one of the “Five Big Sins of the End Times.”
“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk”
–Revelation 9:20
Idol worship is everywhere to be seen in the world. This is especially true in the United States of America.
Which will be the topic of the next installment.
Is the reader attempting to access illegitimate supernatural power through an idol made of human hands?
Those who do so may believe they are obtaining the things of this world “for free.” But these things come at a VERY high cost. The idolator is deceived: though his life may be an absolute mess, he will cling stubbornly to his idol.
The demon behind his idol is NOT his friend or his god.The demon behind his idol is a higher being; more intelligent; very deceiving.
The idolator believes that he controls this spirit. But that is a deception. The truth is: the idolator has to perform a number of tasks, sacrifices or requirements before the demon (devil) will fulfill his wish.
The demon behind his idol is an entity which hates ALL humans and which desires the idolator’s destruction.
Both physically and eternally.
There’s still time to turn away, know God, know Jesus, know peace and enjoy the benefits of eternal life.

THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
