“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”
–Matthew 10:16
So, what did Jesus Christ mean when he uttered some of the most famous words of advice almost 2000 years ago?
What did Jesus mean when he advised his disciples to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves“?
Simply put, he was warning his disciples to be aware of the many tricks and deceptions used by Satan and the workers of iniquity. The disciples of Jesus would NOT be very effective if they were continuously snared by the tricks, deceptions and wiles of Satan.
Jesus was also warning his disciples not to use such tricks and deceptions when they learned of them.
The apostle Paul later alluded to such tricks and strategems when he wrote Ephesians 6:11.
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
–Ephesians 6:11
During a recent discussion, someone asked, “What are the wiles of the devil?”
At the time, the answer was given, “The wiles of the devil are the deceptions Satan uses to TRICK and TRAP the unwary.”
Is there a better definition?
The wiles of the devil – Τας μεθοδειας του διαβολου· The methods of the devil; the different means, plans, schemes, and machinations which he uses to deceive, entrap, enslave, and ruin the souls of men. A man’s method of sinning is Satan’s method of ruining his soul.
—Adam Clarke’s Commentary
It is appropriately rendered here as “wiles,” meaning cunning devices, arts, attempts to delude and destroy us. The wiles “of the devil” are the various arts and stratagems which he employs to drag souls down to perdition. We can more easily encounter open force than we can cunning; and we need the weapons of Christian armor to meet the attempts to draw us into a snare, as much as to meet open force. The wiles of the devil are the various arts and stratagems which he employs to drag souls down to perdition. We can more easily encounter open force than we can cunning; and we need the weapons of Christian armour to meet the attempts to draw us into a snare, as much as to meet open force. The idea here is, that Satan does not carry on an open warfare. He does not meet the Christian soldier face to face. He advances covertly; makes his approaches in darkness; employs cunning rather than power, and seeks rather to deceive and betray than to vanquish by mere force. Hence the necessity of being constantly armed to meet him whenever the attack is made. A man who has to contend with a visible enemy may feel safe, if he only prepares to meet him in the open field. But far different is the case if the enemy is invisible; if he steals upon us slyly and stealthily; if he practices war only by ambushes and by surprises. Such is the foe that we have to contend with–and almost all the Christian struggle is a warfare against stratagems and wiles. Satan does not openly appear. He approaches us not in repulsive forms, but comes to recommend some plausible doctrine, to lay before us some temptation that shall not immediately repel us. He presents the world in an alluring aspect; invites to pleasures that seem to be harmless; and leads us in indulgence, until we have gone so far that we cannot retreat.
—Albert Barnes’ New Testament Notes/Commentary
Against the wiles of the devil: the devil useth arts and stratagems, as well as force and violence, and therefore, if any part of your spiritual armour be wanting, he will assault you where he finds you weakest.
—Matthew Poole’s Commentary
Be aware of the deceptions of the devil: they are many and they are usually clever and hard to see through–if one doesn’t look too closely. But, that being said, KNOW the schemes of the enemy, do not PARTICIPATE in the schemes of the enemy.
In other words, “Be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.”
IS the reader a big believer in the philosophy of “Fight fire with fire“?
HAS the reader ever tried battling a REAL fire with fire?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The culture has concentrated on getting people to focus on themselves; to look within themselves.
It’s the goal of the government, media, science, culture, entertainment, technology, and churches. At some point soon, people will be asked to find within themselves their divine spark: that they are a god. Most will have absolutely no problem doing that.
Their parents and schools have more or less told the latest and greatest generations they were gods since they were children.
“I don’t know how the Discovery Channel keeps coming up with new shark shows. These are real shows: They have “Shaq Does Shark Week.” They’ve got “Guy Fieri’s Feeding Frenzy,” “Cash Cab: Shark Week Edition,” “Naked and Afraid of Sharks,” and “Bear Versus Shark” — which, if you think about that one, in a battle between bear and shark, home field advantage would be huge, right?”

And what is more dramatic than an apparent feud among the beautiful people, right?
Particularly if the “feud” is between celebrities, politicos or royal nabobs?
IN FACT, the rich and celebrated almost never disagree: they engage in feuds–sometimes for decades after they have ceased being celebrated for anything else.
What would the beautiful people do with themselves if not for their never-ending feuds?
Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) has always had a problem: what to do when too many of the rich and celebrated have NOTHING “newsworthy” to do. When the media gets tired of reporting what the rich and celebrated are wearing, they turn to the tried-and-true method of of fake “feuds” to generate cheap, plastic “news.”
One popular singer’s entire marketing campaign over the years seems to have been based on engaging in one “feud” after another. But, as the “victims” appear to be primarily the singer’s “fans,” it’s hard to get too worked up over the ruse.
Sports, politics and celebrity culture, European royalty–wherever the rich and celebrated congregate: these are the arenas where readers can most often find stories of “feuds.”
Oh–and pro wrestling…
One can depend on those who labor for the mystery of iniquity to act, in not only an EVIL manner, but also in a very repetitive one as well.
Case in point: when two followers of Satan are working together, one of the first things they do is establish that they 1-do not like each other; 2- they hate each other; or, 3- are fighting against one another.
Democrats and Republicans, Russia and the USA, members of the same family who toil together for evil ends, famous celebrities who are “feuding” with each other: it happens so often, one occasionally has to wonder, “Does Satan have a university or school where he teaches his followers these tricks?”

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD”
–Deuteronomy 18:10-12
There is a group of those who turn to the supernatural for a helping hand.
Doyens of divination, astrologers, enchanters (those who use various methods of divination or foretelling future events), witches, charmers (those who use spells/those who use other claimed methods to control lower life forms), consulters with familiar (evil/demonic) spirits, wizards, necromancers (those who claim to talk to the dead): these are the primary members of the Familiar Spirit Club–though there are others (sorcerers, fortune tellers, etc.) who access illegitimate supernatural power for fun and profit.
ALL of these acts–as well as those who practice such arts–are proscribed by the Book of Deuteronomy 18:10-12.
During the end times, a great many more succumb to the temptation of consulting with familiar/evil spirits.
Even though such behaviors warrant SPECIFIC warnings from God’s Word.
Even though such spirits are a JUDGMENT FROM GOD against those who engage in such forbidden activities.
Even though those who employ such spirits may deceive themselves that these judgments are beneficial to them.
No matter what one may call them, devils/demons/evil spirits/unclean spirits/familiar spirits are very bad news for the one who contacts and accesses such illegitimate supernatural entities and the power such entities possess.
2- Familiar spirits are a judgment from God Almighty, NOT a gift.
“So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.”
–1CHRONICLES 10:13-14
3- God’s Word calls such spirits “devils,” which has a meaning of adversary or opponent.
An adversary is most usually NOT someone who lends a helping hand.
Because those who consult with such evil spirits are deceived, they believe themselves to be in possession of something of great benefit–instead of an affliction.
Because those who consult with such unclearn spirits are deceived, they will go to great lengths to justify their illegitimate relationship. They often will attribute their many misfortunes and torments to ANYTHING but the cause of their troubles: their consulting with a familiar spirit.
Such folk need the prayers of believers.
Again, an adversary is most usually NOT someone who lends a helping hand.
OF COURSE, men WILL be at odds with other men in the end times–especially with those who profess the name of Jesus Christ.

—Matthew 24:7

—Mark 13:12
“And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”
–Matthew 10:36
The end times are a time of division: between those few whose first priority is Jesus Christ–and the rest of mankind.
Jesus Himself said that He came, not to bring peace, but a sword.
Jesus IS the end times dividing line: He said so much Himself.
“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”
–Matthew 10:34-36
IF this seems strange to the reader, then the reader needs to begin studying his Bible instead of relying on other men (wolves in sheep’s clothing, evil men and seducers, etc.) to tell him what God’s Word says.

“How can the reader know when the Corporate Media is lying to him (never mind the fact that the media is Satan’s Mouthpiece and Satan is the father of lies)? One easy way to tell is the use of “Why” and “How” in the headlines of an article. When the reader sees “Why?” or “How?” in the headline–occasionally “What” is used–that which follows will be a fairy tale, a narrative, a bedtime story spun by the media for the benefit of the media’s master. “Why” usually denotes an on-going narrative; “How” signifies a story line which explains past events. Not all narratives begin with “How” or “Why.” However, the most in-your-face, over-the-top ones usually do. ALL political “news” is narrative.
“American journalism (like the journalism of any other country) is predominantly paltry and worthless. Its pretensions are enormous, but its achievements are insignificant.”
― H.L. Mencken
“Things are never quite what they seem. Events are seldom close to how the media and history portray them.”
“It is a free press…There are laws to protect the freedom of the press’s speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press.”
–Mark Twain, speech: License of the Press
“If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it.”
—Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda
“Journalists” are story-tellers. Nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes, there is an element of truth in their stories, but truth is not a requirement of what they do.
In the case of James Gunn (who did a good job with his Guardians of the Galaxy films), what he wrote was explicit and perverse–and there were over 10,000 of such “jokes” (since deleted): that’s a LOT of “joking” about essentially, child rape.
“I was just joking” is usually the most ordinary line of defense when one of the glitterati attracts attention (planned or not) for their nefarious behaviors.
It is telling that if what Gunn had written had had visuals attached (instead of, in many cases, merely links to those visuals), he would have been guilty of “child porn.”
As to all of the “celebrities” who have rushed to defend Gunn: why would anyone expect them not to?
Donald Trump and the media’s “birther” myth – This is what the Corporate Media does so well: it layers lie after lie into existing narratives. Here the (main) lie is: the people who pointed out the glaring inconsistencies in the Obama record were on par with Donald Trump and his “angry 12 percent” (AS IF Trump had 12 percent support of any segment outside of ‘celebrity worshipers’ and “paid supporters“).
Was Barack Obama born in the USA?
Most likely not.
But Obama’s record (or lack thereof) was done in such a way as to invite skepticism. Obama’s jerry-rigged records were constructed in such a slip-shod method so as to attract the notice of anyone who was even slightly paying attention.
Here, the author of the linked piece also does what Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) does so well: lacking any evidence or proof whatsoever to back up his contentions, he substitutes a goodly portion of snark and attitude.
And there is no truth in his mouthpiece, the lying Corporate Media.
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
—John 8:44
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”
—Matthew 24:7
“Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.”
—Mark 13:12
“And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”

How crucial are Pennsylvania and Florida? They’re more crucial than all the other states. But they’re still not that crucial. Income increased as much as it did only because Census two years ago altered the way the figure is calculated, including a massive change in how much “income” households derived from making withdrawals from their own retirement accounts. The change boosted estimates.
Who knew spending saved money is now counted as “income“?
IF ONLY everyone in America drained their retirement accounts, the country would REALLY be booming!

Everyone has the “right to die.”
The vast majority do not exercise this “right.”
The “right to die” is about OTHERS deciding who is to live and who is to die.
Christians seemed most likely to underestimate the discomfort of others in response to anything that resembled an invitation to prayer. For David Silverman, the president of American Atheists, these invitations are “an act of religious intolerance.” When a Christian says “I’ll pray for you,” Silverman hears, “You’re different from me and I’ll pray for you to change.”
So, one is to keep one’s thoughts to one’s self about prayer–which, ultimately, is what indoctrination and intimidation is all about.

“Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.”

Is consciousness everywhere? Is it a basic feature of the universe, at the very heart of the tiniest subatomic particles? Such an idea—panpsychism as it is known —might sound like New-Age mysticism, but some hard-nosed analytic philosophers have suggested it might be how things are, and it’s now a hot topic in philosophy of mind.
…the idea is that sex is never a problem, only considering any aspect of it “offensive to morality or decency; indecent; depraved” or “abominable, disgusting; repulsive” is.
Every reality-TV show is supposedly an opportunity to watch human nature unfold onscreen, though there’s no way to really be sure if your favorite Real Housewife would have flipped that table in anger without a camera present. When the crew follows these same volatile cast members behind their therapists’ closed doors, viewers are treated to a whole new layer of ambiguous entertainment, with one problem: Therapy isn’t entertainment.
A new report from the World Bank says rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has the potential to cause as much economic damage as the 2008 financial crisis.
A number of narratives crowd this piece, but several stand out.
1- In this not-so-sly invitation to debauchery, the ancient world–as always–is depicted as totally depraved and “prudish” America (despite its abominable ways) is always playing catch-up.
So relax–and learn from those who perished of old.
2- Anyone who claims to be a Christian–even those who bring reproach on the name of Jesus Christ–is a Christian in the eyes of the antichrist Corporate Media. This is par for the course.
3- License is liberty, particularly when referring to women.

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. “
–Matthew 10:16
WHAT DOES THIS BIBLE VERSE MEAN?
Christ shows how the ministers must behave themselves under the cross. You will be in great danger. You will not so much as take revenge for an injury: and by the mixing of these beast’s natures together, he will not have our wisdom to be malicious, nor our simplicity mad, but a certain form of good nature which is composed exquisitely of both of them.
Wise (fronimoi prudent) as serpents, and harmless as doves.] This is a proverbial saying: so in Shir hashirim Rabba, fol. 16, “The holy blessed God said to the Israelites, Ye shall be towards me as upright as the doves; but, towards the Gentiles, as cunning as serpents.”
There is a beauty in this saying which is seldom observed. The serpent is represented as prudent to excess, being full of cunning, Ge 3:1; 2Co 11:3; and the dove is simple, even to stupidity, Ho 7:11; but Jesus Christ corrects here the cunning of the serpent, by the simplicity of the dove; and the too great simplicity of the dove, by the cunning of the serpent.
Be wise as serpents, etc. Serpents have always been an emblem of wisdom and cunning, Ge 3:1. The Egyptians used the serpent in their hieroglyphics as a symbol of wisdom. Probably the thing in which Christ directed his followers here to imitate the serpent was in its caution in avoiding danger. No animal equals them in the rapidity and skill which they evince in escaping danger. So said Christ to his disciples, You need caution and wisdom, in the midst of a world that will seek your lives. He directs them also to be harmless, not to provoke danger, not to do injury, and thus make their fellow-men justly enraged against them. Doves are, and always have been, a striking emblem of innocence. Most men would foolishly destroy a serpent, be it ever so harmless; yet few are so hard-hearted as to kill a dove.
be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves–Wonderful combination this! Alone, the wisdom of the serpent is mere cunning, and the harmlessness of the dove little better than weakness: but in combination, the wisdom of the serpent would save them from unnecessary exposure to danger; the harmlessness of the dove, from sinful expedients to escape it. In the apostolic age of Christianity, how harmoniously were these qualities displayed! Instead of the fanatical thirst for martyrdom, to which a later age gave birth, there was a manly combination of unflinching zeal and calm discretion, before which nothing was able to stand.
